Pick your pony!
Posted by Molly on January 15th, 2008. Filed under: Politics. With the 2008 elections 11 months away, I promise not to turn this blog into a political soap box until then. That’s not to say I wont interject the occasional opinion- it is MY damn blog after all… but I don’t want to bore anyone, nor do I want to alienate people because of opposing political opinions. I do want to encourage others to be politically involved, however. That doesn’t mean standing on the street corner with a sign, or even caucusing (*snicker* how can you not laugh when you say that?!) but at least having an opinion, and making it count- voting. Anyway, while this is embarrassing to admit, it wasn’t until very recently (last year) that I even knew what the difference between a democrat and a republican was. There, the truth is out. Feel free to stone me.
Anyhow, I think maybe we need to be less concerned with our political label as we should be about the issues we hold dear to our own values. Minnesota public radio has put together a quick and dirty little quiz that asks in the most simple terms what your opinions are on popular issues, then based on your replies, tells you the 2008 presidential candidate that is the closest match to your ideals. While mine reply wasn’t exactly who I anticipated it to be, it made me take a closer look at what I found to be truly important. Of course there are other factors involved, the person’s character, leadership skills, history, etc. Maybe there is someone who’s personality just doesn’t sit right with you… and that’s FINE. It’s a very personal decision. You can find the quiz here, and I’d love to hear if your front runner (if you have one) actually matched up with your answers.
Although I have my favorites (and LEAST favorites) I’m trying to keep an open mind until closer to November!

I took a quiz like that before, but I like this one better because it was more up-to-date. Still alligned with the same dude :)

John Edwards 25%
Barack Obama 22%

Surprisingly, Mike Huckabee was my top match. Hilary, Barrack, and Mitt were all tied.
But I must say, I am not very informed on the issues it asks about. Thanks for jump starting my need to get smart and have an opinion. I’ll have to take it again later.

Awesome :) This is the best one I’ve come across too. I liked that in the end it shows you WHY you matched with them and why not!

I’ve been pulling for Barack and I was actually matched mostly with Edwards too! I still like Barack most, but at least I’ll feel a little better if he didn’t win :)

Huckabee was higher for me than I expected. Ron Paul was my dead last. It kinda made me laugh ;D I think we only shared views on like two things.

Took the quiz and it was a tie between Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson. hmm… I was cheering the Mittman on, but he wound up in the middle. Oh well. Obama is ok – anybody but Hillary!! (peeeyeuuu)

Ha! That quiz is not so helpful Molly ….specifically the one about K-12 education. There were so many options and with them so parceled out, there was no way to accurately answer. Oy! My response did not line up with who I am voting for but thanks for the link nonetheless ;-)

Haha, I think my parents share your ‘anybody but Hillary’ sentiment!

That was an interesting survey and pretty accurate as far as I can see. At least Monica Lewinsky’s boyfriend’s wife was way down at the bottom of any front runners.

K12 education is the best. Everyone should look out for it.*~*
