Slowing things down and appreciating life

My life since this April has been one blur of work, sleep, work, hospitals, work and more work. You can punctuate those last five point five months with the occasional rollerskating, a few batches of cupcakes, and two trips to the movies. Unfortunately, all work and no play makes Superwife a dull girl. My first summer back in Alaska was spent working retail. Uuugh.

That being said, circumstances have led me to put in my two weeks notice at my second job, a decision that is both exciting and sad at the same time. It’s sad because I really enjoyed the job, the coworkers, and definitely the extra money. I’m excited, because I’ll have all this um… what’s it called again? Oh yeah, spare time.

My personal life and marriage had been taking the back seat to work, and it’s not because I wanted it that way, it’s just that I am currently the provider for our household, and I will do what I have to do to uphold a comfortable lifestyle for us- unfortunately, I think it’s been causing more harm than good. We’ve decided to scale things back, budget carefully and have the extra time to spend together. I’m seeing now that the time we do get to spend together is so much more precious than anything that they extra money could buy.

If nothing else, the job helped put a dent in some debt, boost my wardrobe, make new friends and really teach me to value my personal time and exercise a strong work/life balance.

I think I’m going to take up knitting. I watched a few instructional videos on YouTube last night, and I’m excited to pick up some yarn and needles and give it a go. I was also very excited to sit on the couch and watch March of the Penguins last night. I might paint my toenails tonight. Tomorrow, I might do a crossword. The world is my slow, dull and relaxing oyster.
