Knitting and DIY art
Posted by admin on September 30th, 2007. Filed under: General, Recreation.Okay, so I question my ability to sit still and actually complete a knitting project. I did manage to teach myself the basics with the help of some videos online. I got through about 10 rows and only dropped a few stitches. Admittedly, it looks pretty sorry as far as knitting projects go, but it was like 10pm when I got started and I was a glass of wine deep. It probably doesn’t help that I’m using the cheapest acrylic yarn that money can buy… I just couldn’t bring myself to use any of the wool yarn after watching a video about commercial wool farms and how terribly the sheep are treated (god I sound like such a hippy). The cotton yarn was okay, but it was a little thinner than I wanted. The stuff I’m using isn’t THAT bad, but next time I’ll splurge on something nicer for sure.
Lately I can’t keep myself off etsy.com and shanalogic.com! I’m loving all these amazing hand made things. I know where all my friends birthday and Christmas gifts are coming from this year! These bags are on my purchase list for next payday-

Adorable Cupcake Tote

Vinyl Bird and Cherry Blossoms Purse
All the stuff is so unique, I can’t think of a better way to give someone a one-of-a-kind gift. Plus, I love it when people ask me where I got something (piece of clothing, accessory, etc) and I get to tell them it’s vintage, purchased abroad, or handmade. I might as well say~
“Oh this old thing? I had it imported from Antarctica.”
They always get this wonderful disappointed look on their face when they find out they can’t rush to the department store and get one for themselves. These type of websites are ideal for folks like me who love crafty things but would much rather pay someone else to spend the time to make them! Not to mention the fact that you’re supporting artists and crafters who have chosen to make their handywork thier profession =)
